I know, right? :scratch)

I have been meaning to try out geocaching. Well, as I was thinking about it I though what a great way to spend an afternoon with the top/doors off. Then it hit me! Jeeocaching! I am sure somebody has thought of it before but what the heck!

Here are a few links for information...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geocaching
http://www8.garmin.com/outdoor/geocaching/
http://www.gpsgeocache.com/

What do you think?

I guess it wasnt an original idea. I looked around and found a few sites with it. Oh well!

Cant win em all buddy.

But still I imagine it would be fun. Gas prices just make it hard to justify right now. I would rather do it on a hike or something.

I will have to try it some time. Maybe in the fall take a ride to the mountains and do it.

We love Geocaching. We are still newbie’s to it but we have a blast doing it. We are thinkg about heading to URE this weekend 11/8 - 11/9 just for Geocaching (and maybe a little wheeling, since I am going to leave the little tires on the Jeep). If anyone would like to join us drop me a line. And of course if you want to do more wheeling let me know and I will put the bigger tires on the Jeep.

Hey, Jeff I had a couple good finds in FL while I was here this week. You really need to give this a try.

I haven't looked into this a lot but I have an idea of how it works. I have a couple questions though.

What do you typically find? Are you supposed to leave something after you take what you find?

Where do you find the locations of the caches? Just online I guess?

I find all of ours at http://www.geocaching.com/ we are up to about 25 finds, and all most all of them were less than 10 miles from our home. I travel a lot for work and have just started this week to find some while on the road. I looked while I was in Germany a couple weeks ago and there was even a ton within a few miles of my hotel.

But what do you find? Do you take it and leave something else or just look at what you find and put it back?

Most of the time you find nothing more than the right to sign a log book. Sometimes you find something of very little value. You are expected to leave something of equal or greater value of what you take from the pot. We just went to the dollar store and got a few small things, like some dice, a pack of plastic lizards, etc, etc.

It is more about the hunt than anything. Some people get real creative in hiding these and make hard. Some people make it pretty easy. The listing tells you the size, and how hard it will be to find. Our first 3 searches came up empty, but once we found our first we were able to go back and find the others with little or no problem. We have found some as big as an ammo box and others smaller than the end of you pinky finger.

I would be down for this Jeeocaching. We could do our own caches, not like the ones listed on the geocaching.com. :dunno:

Ok, I am going to hide a cache on a "trail" near my area soon. I'll post it up on here. NOT on geocaching.com. Just for jeep folks pretty much. I'll let you know when I do it. :roflao

I may be getting into this soon.
My pop just sent me his old Garmin Handheld because he got some better one.

I have been reading up on how to use it, & should be fairly proficient with it by next summer. I may even be able to make use of it by springtime. :scratch)
